Bound for Glory, Live Folk Concert Broadcast

WVBR's Bound for Glory brings to central New York a series of free folk concerts on WVBR-FM 93.5 and 105.5. It's some excellent acoustic music, presented by long-time host Phil Shapiro.

Live sets are at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30pm. All three are different and you can come to as many as you wish. Admission to the live audience is free and open to everyone. Kids are always welcome, and refreshments are available.

	03-August-1997	Michael Johnathon Michael Johnathon is on the traditional side of folk, having cut his musical teeth in the hamlet of Mousie, in the hills of eastern Kentucky. He still comes from Kentucky, and his music is moving back toward the folk tradition. He'll play us some banjo as well as guitar, and we'll have a great end to our summer season, and Bound for Glory's 30th year.
July 1997	27-July-1997	Anne Hills WVBR's Bound for Glory is pleased and proud to welcome back Anne Hills, one of America's best folksingers, performing everything from a traditional ballad to her own beautiful, folk-inflected homemade songs. Come early to get a good seat.
	20-July-1997	Paul Wilder Nearly every cut on Paul Wilder's debut CD is top-notch. His wry sense of humor fills his music with strange and wonderful twists and turns. A performer worth catching right now, while you can.
	13-July-1997	Jim Henry Jim Henry's Bound for Glory debut is almost anticlimactic, having been in the works for literally years. Jim is an incredibly hot guitarist, playing not only his own instrumentals, but some of the best traditionally flavored tunes. Plus he's a top notch songwriter and a dynamic performer. A great treat.
	06-July-1997	Greg Greenway You owe it to yourself to join us as WVBR's Bound for Glory welcomes back Greg Greenway, one of the country's best, and best known, contemporary acoustic performers. Greg's excellent contemporary writing fits well with his high-energy, wide open performance style.
June 1997	29-June-1997	Andrew Lawrence Andrew Lawrence comes our way from Baltimore. He's an unusual singer-songwriter: powerful, gritty, sometimes quite funny. Definitely NOT a writer of love songs. A great way to start Bound for Glory's summer season.

April 1997	27-Apr-1997	Armor and Sturtevant These guys are so much fun. Kelly and Dave come from the folk music mecca of Erie, PA. Their collection of instruments ranges from guitar to bass flute to African instruments, and their music shows influences from all over. "Unique" was coined for these two.
	20-Apr-1997	Bill Staines It's easy to run out of superlatives in describing New Hampshire's Bill Staines. His songs have travelled before him into the hearts and repertoires of folk music lovers across North America. His performances define what is the best about Bound for Glory. Come early to get a seat.
	13-Apr-1997	Rod MacDonald Singer/songwriter/guitarist, Shanachie recording artist, Rod MacDonald performs songs to stir the heart, mind, and soul, including "American Jerusalem" and "The Way to Calvary." His songs and his performance are full of humor and power, and, occasionally, politics.
	06-Apr-1997	Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen Two of Bound for Glory's favorite performers return to captivate their long-time fans and first-time listeners with warm harmonies, moving lyrics, and inspired playing. A special evening at the Cafe!
March 1997	30-Mar-1997	Lydia Adams Davis Family entertainer, recording artist, singer/songwriter, Lydia Adams Davis weaves her beautiful voice with captivating melodies bringing joy to audiences of all ages. Be on hand for a truly memorable show.

	09-Mar-1997	Lui Collins Lui Collins is one of our finest singer-songwriters. Very perceptive, powerful, and sometimes quite funny, she brings us some important truths in her music. Welcome her to her first Bound for Glory appearance.
	02-Mar-1997	Mark Rust Mark is an Ithaca favorite. Many of his best known songs were written while he lived in Ithaca, and it's great fun to have him return to Bound for Glory. He'll be full of new stories to tell, and he's celebrating the release of his first CD.
February 1997	23-Feb-1997	Heidi Muller This gentle performer, on mountain dulcimer and guitar, is one of America's finest folk-oriented songwriters. Her songs have been picked up by many other performers. She lives in Seattle and very seldom comes east. This show should be a major treat.
	16-Feb-1997	Lorraine and Bennett Hammond A few of you remember Lorraine Lee, now Hammond, one of America's finest mountain dulcimer players. A few more of you might remember Bennett Hammond, outstanding finger-style guitarist and long ago Ithacan. Together they're an extraordinary, lively duo, on the traditional side of folk.
	02-Feb-1997	Mac Benford and Friends We never know who's playing in the band until the night of the show, but we do know that Mac brings us only the best old timey music to be found in these, or, really, any parts. Mac's old time banjo playing is just plain wonderful, and he's a superb entertainer as well.
January 1997	26-Jan-1997	Tony Bird Tony Bird comes to us from Malawi in southern Africa. He's white, but his music reflects the cultures that surrounded him when he was young. He's an unusual singer-songwriter who grows on you. Very charming and magical.
	19-Jan-1997	John Kirk and Trish Miller It's been way too long. John and Trish bring back their mix of old time and contemporary folk. John plays hot fiddle and guitar, Trish adds old time banjo, and maybe even a little clogging. Bound for Glory favorites.

	10-Nov-96	Cormac McCarthy Of all the folksingers and songwriters we've had on Bound for Glory in recent years, few have generated as much interest as this fellow from New Hampshire, who writes about the fading towns of New England in a way that tells you, Yes, he's been there.
	03-Nov-96	Amy Gallatin and Stillwaters This trio is not quite a bluegrass band. But they can pick and sing with the best of them, and Amy's collection of songs from all over can't be beat.
October 1996	27-Oct-96	Skip Gorman Skip Gorman is a cowboy singer, a rare treat in this current age. His repertoire consists mainly of traditional American songs of the Wide Open Spaces. And he's a super traditional fiddler as well.
	20-Oct-96	Michael Jerling Welcome back Michael Jerling, a wonderful storyteller whose poignant lyrics and bluesy, occasionally jazzy melodies have made him well known to Bound for Glory listeners for many years.

	06-Oct-96	Small Potatoes It's the second time around on WVBR's Bound for Glory for this outstanding, eclectic Illinois-based duo. Come enjoy their close harmonies and their hot licks, but you probably can't fit them into a category.
September 1996	29-Sep-96	Pete Nelson What, you haven't heard Pete Nelson? Well, neither have we, except on CD, which is most fine. Pete Nelson is taking the contemporary singer-songwriter world by storm with his powerful songs and skewed perspective. This should be a very exciting Bound for Glory evening.
	22-Sep-96	John Danaher and Acoustic Merge Featuring the return of Doug Robinson. The area's music scene has been graced with the arrival of an outstanding contemporary acoustic songwriter and folksinger, John Danaher. His band is very fine, and has included Doug Robinson, who will be making a brief return to Ithaca that includes this show.
	15-Sep-96	Pint and Dale Will Pint and Felicia Dale hail from Seattle. Their specialty is songs of the sea. Their style is contemporary. A fascinating mix. A long awaited Bound for Glory debut.
	08-Sep-96	Mike Agranoff Mike is a folksinger. That is, he gathers songs old and new, serious and humorous, and puts his own imprint upon them. And then he writes recitations... the Ballad of Jake and 10-ton Molly... the Sandman.
	01-Sep-96	Jeff Wilkinson WVBR's Bound for Glory kicks off its 30th season with ornery songwriter and storyteller Jeff Wilkinson, whose view of the world is not only powerful, but sometimes quite funny as well.
