Ginny Hawker and Tracy Schwarz grew up in different latitudes, she from Virginia, deep in the southern Appalachians, and he from New Jersey and New England, but both were nourished on traditional southern music: mountain ballads and church music, old-timey, Carter Family, bluegrass, dance tunes.

As part of a large music-making family, Ginny was raised in the tradition, singing with her father in the Primitive Baptist Church in the heartfelt old ways and teaching at the Augusta Heritage Workshops, the Smithsonian, and at festivals. She absorbed spellbinding harmonies and storytelling - the strength, grace, and humor of the oral tradition.

Tracy sought out the music and devoted his life to it. A multi-instrumentalist (fiddle, accordion, guitar) and soulful singer, Tracy plays red hot Cajun and old-timey, and is a multi-decade veteran of the New Lost City Ramblers, a string band pivotal in bringing southern rural music to urban audiences since the 1960s. This legendary group, nominated for several Grammy awards, also included Mike Seeger, whose recent death is a loss to us all.

In 1988, Ginny and Tracy met while teaching at the Ashokan Fiddle and Dance Camp. The rest, as they say.... Their voices and styles mesh simply and truly, with harmonies that send all your hairs upright and songs of substance that fire or soothe the soul. For about 15 years, they have delighted audiences and students across the States, Canada, and the UK, keeping the tradition vibrant. You do not want to miss this concert!

Tickets are available at Ludgate Farm Market, Ithaca Guitar Works, Greenstar Co-op, Small World Music, Bound for Glory, and at the door. You may also order tickets online and by mail: SASE to CFSC, PO Box 481, Ithaca, NY 14851.
