Ray Bonneville's music is a gumbo of American roots stylings. He lays down a surprisingly complex guitar groove, matching that with rock-solid footboard percussion, intricate but understated harmonica licks and weathered vocals. "My music isn't aimed at the intellect," Ray says. "It's aimed at the visceral level, closer to the belt."
No stranger to the road, Ray Bonneville has played for the past 30 years across Canada and the U.S. as well as abroad. Folk Roots magazine describes Ray Bonneville's sound as "...a potent blues cocktail reminiscent of John Lee Hooker and J..J. Cale, leavened with Clapton- and Dire Straits-styled guitar work." Downbeat says he works the country blues vein better than most anyone, and in 1999, this fellow won the Juno Award (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy) in the category of Best Blues Album of the Year for his third album, Gust of Wind.
That's Ray Bonneville, who deftly mixes blues with country and roots-rock -- and he's coming to Ithaca for a show at 8 p.m., Thursday, October 24th at University campus.
