America's Most Entertaining Bluegrass Band To Appear in Wellsboro

The Canyon Country Concert Series, sponsored by the Wellsboro Department of Parks and Recreation, once again brings outstanding music to Tioga County. The Rarely Herd can be heard at the Winter Bluegrass Concert on Saturday, February 16th at the Wellsboro High School.

The Rarely Herd has been voted as America's Most Entertaining Bluegrass Band by SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America) for nine years in a row. They have been nominated once again this year, along with the likes of Del McCoury Band, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, and IIIrd Tyme Out. The Rarely Herd, known for their family style entertainment, has received over 120 national and regional awards or nominations.

The band, which plays to over one million fans annually, captivates their audience with comedy skits, fine vocals, and top notch music. Guitar and lead vocalist, Jim Stack, has been awarded Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year and also Guitar Player of the Year. Jeff Weaver, songwriter, bass player and tenor vocalist, has been named National Entertainer of the Year. According to Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine, "Ned Luberecki's banjo captures that killer tone and technique banjo players die for." The latest addition to the band is Shayne Bartley, a great mandolin and guitar player who has played for several nationally acclaimed bands, including the Lost and Found.

Also appearing at the Winter Bluegrass Concert is Plexigrass, back by popular demand. Plexigrass, a regional band from Nichols, N.Y. , has provided entertainment at both the Canyon Country Bluegrass Festival and the Winter Bluegrass Concert in previous years. This hard-driving band consists of Carl Kithcart on banjo and his sister, Terry Patrick on mandolin; along with brothers Doug and Lance Trotter on guitar and bass. Plexigrass, which has appeared on stage with many of the finest bluegrass bands in the country, is sure to please the crowd with their great instrumentation and tight harmony vocals.

A free jam session will be held in the high school cafeteria from 3PM to 5PM. Bring an instrument and join the fun or just come to hear some great impromptu music.

The concert will be held at the Wellsboro High School on February 16th from 7:00 - 10:00 PM. General Admission tickets are $12.50; Senior Citizens (62+) & Students (HS & below) are $10.00. Tickets can be purchased at the door or on-line at: www.canyoncountryconcerts.com
