Folk Fare: Pumpkin Bread
Now that chilly weather has set in, fill you kitchen with the wonderful smell of spices and baking that has made holidays special for generations.

brown sugar

oil or shortening

eggs
1 can
pumpkin puree

flour
1 Tbsp.
baking powder

tsp
salt
1 tsp.
cinnamon
1 tsp.
allspice
1 tsp.
nutmeg

tsp
cloves

cup
water or milk

/

cup
chopped walnuts
Beat together sugar (or sugar and molasses) and shortening or oil
Beat in eggs and pumpkin
Sift together all dry ingredients
Stir dry ingredients in to the pumpkin mixture, alternating with water (or milk)
Stir in nuts
Pour batter into two greased loaf pans
Baking:
Bake at 350F for 45-60 min., or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
