In some cases, when the band members are geographically diverse, the HomeBase may represent where some of the members are located, nearby to where they are located, or just a compromise location.

When little or no information is known about a band but the band has appeared at one or more dance events, the HomeBase will reflect the location of one of these event(s).

The range of dates during which the band was active.

The "Since" data is presented in one of two formats: "date-since" and "date-since..date-until". The former indicates that the band is still, or is believed to be, active. The latter format indicates a defunct band, one that is not currently active.

Some dates include month and day, but most only indicate a year. A question mark may appear in place of or in addition to a date, to indicate unknown dates or dates that are known to be a best guess.

If the Since data includes an "date-until", the keyword "defunct" may be present and the date(s) may be displayed in red to note that the band is not currently performing.

If the Since data contains the same date for "date-since" and "date-until", explanatory text may be present to draw attention to the one-time-only nature of the band. Bands that appear for only one event are not uncommon, although many do not choose to formalize the group with an advertised band name; dance organizers have been known to create a band name when the band does not.

How to contact the band.

Typically, this is a link to the Ident record of one of the band members, but it may be a simple presentation that might include a name, an Email address, or a telephone number.

Band Members include performers who currently play with a Band, or may have performed with the band in the past.

The list is not inclusive; there may be members not listed.

When a member is listed, the listing may be qualified by the keyword, "occasional." This indicates that the member was probably not a full-time member, but appeared once or more with the band. In most cases, this appearance was advertised (that's how the information was collected!); in other cases the appearance information was provided by another band member or by someone else. It is possible that an occasional member is not listed as such, or vice versa; corrections are appreciated.

It is possible that some band members have shifted between full and occasional status more than once. There is no attempt to indicate this. Generally, though, a currently full member who was previously occasional is listed as a full member.

Members may also be qualified by a term of service in the form "(date...)" or "(date..date)" with the former indicating a current, but relatively recent member, and the latter denoting a former member. Some dates include month and day, but most only indicate a year. A question mark may appear in place of or in addition to a date, to indicate unknown dates or dates that are known to be a best guess.

If a final date is known, the listing may be qualified by the keyword, "former." The only implication of this keyword is that the member no longer plays with the band.

Instruments may also be listed for members. These indicate all the instruments catalogued with the member, but may not represent the instrument(s) the member plays with this band. However, some effort has been made to list members in order of instrument tone (in general, fiddles first, rhythm and percussion last).

* Dance Record : Dancing (Venue, Schedule)

A brief description of a regularly scheduled event. A dance series may have one or more regularly scheduled events.

Typically, all events are combined in one entry, except when there are different venues, different dance styles, or semi-regularly scheduled events. In any of these cases, multiple "Dancing" entries may be displayed.

The venue address that is displayed is typically a US Postal Service address. Additional directions may be displayed within the venue record (click on the venue name).

Very few dance series have a procedure to contact dancers or the organizers (by telephone) during an event. The venue telephone number that is listed is usually a contact number for the venue or its management. Most organizers suggest that you do not call this number with questions about the event, about lost-and-found items, or to reach someone during the event.
